At Smart Foods Healthy Kids, we've worked with schools before, but now we're really going deeper! We've been helping an elementary school initiate "Healthy Choices." This kid-influencing program has several parts (I can't wait to show you the videos of kids rapping about veggies!), and this video comes from their "Veggies Are FUNdamental" extravaganza. For a 3-week period in January, the fifth graders logged all the vegetables consumed by all the students during snack and lunch (they then put the numbers in Excel spreadsheets, and beautiful Powerpoint graphs...I was extremely impressed).
The results? Besides consuming about SEVEN THOUSAND EXTRA VEGETABLE SERVINGS, the students really changed their veggie-eating habits. They now choose carrots instead of chips after school, and opt for spinach and baked potatoes instead of pizza!
This particular video was created entirely by the class that achieved the highest veggie-eating participation (second graders!) Their goal is to help other kids become veggie mavens, too. Share it with kids you know who could use a veggie inspiration.
