When is the last time you called your congressperson? How about your town councilperson? Have you ever written a note in your supermarket suggestion box asking for more organic products? Any time you participate on a positive level, you are helping change the world!
I belong to an inspiring group of mothers who have made lots of far-reaching changes by just making a few calls. One of my favorite “success stories” happened when one mother called her local parks maintenance man, and asked about the pesticides he sprayed in her park. After talking to her (she was very polite, and never caused the man to be defensive), the man did some research on his own and called her back. He was thankful to have been educated, he decided to put up notifications when he sprayed so that kids wouldn’t play on freshly applied pesticides! In case you get the urge, the switchboard for your congressional representative is: 202.224.3121.
Treat yourself: share your opinion in a way that counts! (It's interesting--and telling--to note how our congresspeople hire for their offices. I've been both impressed and appalled.)
